Saltt time!
He has probably heard that a high sodium diet can raise its blood pressure, which increases its risk of heart disease.
But a new study outside Canada has made a fruitful discovery that increases the intake of certain potassium -rich foods can have a greater impact on the regulation of blood pressure than to reduce salt.
An outstanding option? Bananas.
“Usually, when we have high blood pressure, we are advised to eat less salt,” said Anita Layton, a professor of applied mathematics, computer science, pharmacy and biology at the University of Waterloo.
“Our research suggests that adding more foods rich in potassium to your diet, such as bananas or broccoli, could have a greater positive impact on its blood pressure than simply cut sodium.”
While previous research has highlighted the benefits of potassium in blood pressure, this study used a mathematical model to analyze how potassium and sodium relationship affects blood pressure.
He also explored sexual differences, discovering that men are more prone to high blood pressure than premenopausal women, but may have an equal response to the increase in potassium intake.
“The first humans ate many fruits and vegetables, and as a result, the regulatory systems of our body may have evolved to work better with a high diet in potassium and low sodium,” said the author of the principal study Melissa Stadt, a doctorate candidate.
“Today, western diets tend to be much higher in sodium and lower in potassium. That can explain why high blood pressure is mainly found in industrialized societies, not in isolated societies.”
While bananas could be the unrecognized heroes of hypertension, their health benefits do not end there.
Bananas are also rich in fiber, which helps digestion and supports regular intestinal movements. They are full of vitamin B6 and tryptophan, which can improve mood, brain health and nervous system.
Its sugars and natural carbohydrates provide a rapid increase in energy, just 105 calories per refrigerium.
Their potassium -rich content makes them one of the best foods to overcome a hangover, as well as an excellent way of the electrolytes replaced after a sweaty training.
And as strange as it sounds, people are only rubbing banana peels on their faces to harvest the totally natural and brilliant benefits of a “banana peel scrub.”
