The French president, Emmanuel Macron, said on Wednesday that France was able to have a Palestinian state in June, adding that, in turn, some countries in the Middle East could have the state of Israel.
“We need to move towards recognition (or a Palestinian state). And so, around the coming months, we will do it. I am not doing it to please anyone. I will do it because it will be correct,” said an interview duration in France.
“And because I also because to participate in a collective dynamic that should also allow those who defend Palestine to recognize Israel in turn, something that many of them are not doing.”
Although Palestine has been recognized as a sovereign state by almost 150 countries, most of the main Western powers have not been, including the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany and Japan.
Among countries that do not recognize Israel are Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.
“Our goal is somewhere in June, with Saudi Arabia, to preside over this conference where we could finish the movement towards the recognition of several countries,” Macron said.
