If you thought Oscar Piastri would flee with the Formula 1 2025 driver championship, Max Verstappen would like to give him a word.
Or maybe it will simply let your driving speak.
The Red Bull driver assaulted Piasstri in the first round of Emilia Romagna’s Grand Prix after the McLaren driver had a great start out of the line. Piasstri maintained leadership in the first corner, but Verstappen roared around Piastri through the Chicana Tamburello, making the advance around the outside to slide towards P1.
You can see the dramatic advancement of the Verstappen opening return here:
The Red Bull driver did not have it easier from there, since he needed to navigate a pair of safety cars, first when Esteban Ocon achieved the racing line and in the grass in Tour 29, then when Kimi Antonelli Loste Happy 46. He stopped in the wells for fresh tires, while Piastri remained on the track to try to collect the position.
Verstappen nailed the restart and left with his fourth consecutive victory in Icola, in the 400th beginning of the Red Bull Grand Prix, ahead of Norris, which surpassed Pastri for P2. The Australian driver did enough to stop Lewis Hamilton, who delivered a thunderous recovery campaign to finish fourth after starting the 12th.
The victory led Verstappen to 22 Piastri points at the top of the pilot championship classification, while Norris’s P2 took only 13 points of his teammate.
Alexander Albon finished fifth on a strong day for Williams, since Carlos Sainz Jr. finished eighth. Charles Leclerc crossed the line in front of George Russell in P7, and former teammates of Isack Hadjar and Yuki Tsunoda, now with Red Bull, completed the score.
Tsunoda was able to deliver an incredible recovery impulse, climbing to the points after a strong accident in the qualification ended its early day on Saturday and required a beginning from the Box lane.
