The clouds of dust drift of the Sahara desert over the Atlantic Ocean could make sunrise and unusual -looking sunset, as well as a potentially dry climate, over Florida and parts of the southeast of the United States in the coming days.
What is happening
Between the end of spring and early fall, the Saharan dust flew over the Atlantic Ocean every three or five days. When the conditions are correct, the air masses that are filled with this dust can reach the thousands of miles necessary to reach North America. Meteorologists call this type of air mass the Saharan air layer, or salt.

Currently, on Friday, a thin salt is dispersing over Florida, says Ana Torres-Vazquez, a meteorologist at the Miami National Meteorological Service Office, who adds that this could interfere with some storms taken to the Peninsula by a cold front on Saturday. Another layer of dust thickness and dense to May in the next week, although this prognosis is currently less safe, says Torres-Vazquez.
It is worth noting that the official of the Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1. In general, salt tends to dry the atmosphere that moves, some scientists clouds of dust can hurricanes. For now, however, the forecast do not expect tropical storms in the Atlantic in the next week.
Sunrise, sunset
The effect that will be more noticeable for local residents such as dust persistent can be unusual sunrise and sunset.
“When you have Saharan, it is for any other child or private, if the sun goes out at angle, such as the duration of sunrise or sunset,” says Torres-Vazquez, “can hit those who contribute that they are doses-infections, a type of child type of child or dulldish results or friendly results.”
Other parts of the country could also see the improved duration and the duration of the sunsets in the next few days of a different child participation: the smoke of forest fires. Canada has experience in another brutal year for forest fires, with almost 700,000 hectares, or more than 2,500 square miles, to date.
At this time, the fires are shortly bad in the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, partly due to the high temperatures trapped in the center of Canada. The smoke of these fires is expected to reach the US states, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan, in the next few days.
Depending on how close the dust and smoke arrive to the surface of the earth, these children of particular matter can be harmful to the health of people, particularly for very young or very old people and those who have asthma, heart or lung disease.
