The Square Enix team behind Final Fantasy Tactics — The Ivalice Chronicles didn’t just remaster the iconic strategy RPG, they had to go through the trouble of remaking the source code from scratch, according to Bloomberg. In an interview with Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the game’s director Kazutoyo Maehiro explained the arduous process of designing The Ivalice Chronicles, which is set to release at the end of the month. When getting to work on the remake, Maehiro and his team discovered they had to rebuild the source code from the ground up since it was lost thanks to the industry’s unstandardized…

Dr Kaelee Brockway is a professor of education and physical therapy who has built a series of AI based “patients” for her PT students to train on. Kaelee is a pioneer in using these tools for training. She showed me the personas that she has built with LLMs that are now being used by her students to figure out how to train their soft skills–a huge part of any training. This a great demo and discussion about how clinical professionals are going to use LLMs in their training and their work–Matthew Holt
Aku…
This summer unraveled me. Between cross-country flights, caregiving for my father, and toggling between Oregon and New England, I felt suspended. It was like living in two worlds at once, never fully grounded. As the season shifts, I’m not just welcoming cooler air and longer shadows—I’m noticing the crispness in the mornings, the golden light spilling across my Portland streets, and how the sunlight catches in my eyes in a way that makes me feel fully awake again. I’m craving a September reset: a return to rhythm, to rituals, and to a steadiness that feels like home. Fall has always…
The NFL playoffs are always defined by quarterback play. This preview examines four quarterbacks who enter the upcoming campaign with unique storylines and strong potential to push their franchises deep into the postseason: Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, and Baker Mayfield. Patrick Mahomes: The Standard of Playoff Excellence Patrick Mahomes continues to set the…
The Labor Department’s August jobs report showed that the number of immigrant workers declined over the last year while job growth among U.S.-born workers accelerated. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data for August showed that, over the last year, the number of employed foreign-born workers — a metric that doesn’t differentiate between legal and illegal immigrants, according to the BLS — has declined by 822,000 since last August. In that period, the number of employed U.S.-born workers has increased by 2.76 million. The unemployment rates for both groups of workers have changed little in the last year. Among foreign-born workers, the…
Bill Ackman, CEO of New York City-based hedge fund Pershing Square Capital Management, is imploring Eric Adams to drop out of the contentious New York City mayoral race, saying that he doesn’t stand a chance against newcomer Zohran Mamdani. “It is time for Mayor Adams to step aside,” Ackman posted on X. While he commended Adams, who has been mayor of New York City since 2022, succeeding Bill de Blasio, for doing a “very good job” in the position, Ackman said that Adams polls have “deteriorated substantially” since the primary in June, and it has become increasingly clear that he…
Shares in the manufacturer of Tylenol plunged on Friday following a report that Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is planning to release a report showing a potential link between the over-the-counter drug and autism. The Wall Street Journal reported that Kennedy’s HHS is expected to release a report this month on potential causes of autism which is likely to show Tylenol taken during pregnancy and low levels of the vitamin folate, according to people familiar with the matter. Tylenol is a popular over-the-counter drug used for purposes such as pain relief, fever reduction and addressing symptoms of…
With Hollywood video game adaptations surging, it was only a matter of time before Life is Strange got the treatment. After all, even platformer and sandbox game adaptations have (shockingly) found success in this new era. A well-written adventure game seems like a much shorter leap. Amazon announced on Friday that Prime Video has ordered a series based on the 2015 game. Like Don’t Nod’s classic, the series will blend angsty teenage realism with supernatural elements and moral choices. And Amazon’s teaser synopsis points to a familiar storyline. “The story follows Max, a photography student, who discovers she can rewind…
Anthropic will pay a record-breaking $1.5 billion to settle a class action lawsuit piracy lawsuit brought by authors and publishers. The settlement is the largest-ever payout for a copyright case in the United States. The AI company behind the Claude chatbot reached a settlement in the case last week, but terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed at the time. Now, The New York Times reports that the 500,000 authors involved in the case will get $3,000 per work. “In June, the District Court issued a landmark ruling on AI development and copyright law, finding that Anthropic’s approach to training AI…
