Silver surpassed $50 an ounce for the first time on Thursday amid a supply shortage and an economic environment that bolsters precious metals. Spot silver briefly rose above $51 an ounce during Thursday’s trading session after breaking the $50 an ounce threshold earlier in the day. The Entertainment Software Association has released its Power of Play report, which presents a snapshot of who is playing video games, and why, all around the world. There are a lot of interesting data points here from more than 24,000 respondents, all of whom are older than 16 and play at least weekly. The doubters who think gaming is just for kids may be surprised to learn that the average age of the respondents is 41 years old, and the gender split is nearly even between men and women. One of the most intriguing aspects to the report were the…
The Programmed Data Processor-1 (PDP-1) is perhaps most recognizable as the home of Spacewar!, one of the world’s first video games, but as the video above proves, it also works as an enormous and very slow iPod, too. In the video, Boards of Canada’s “Olson” is playing off of paper tape that’s carefully fed and programmed into the PDP-1 by engineer and Computer History Museum docent Peter Samson. It’s the final product of Joe Lynch’s PDP-1.music project, an attempt to translate the short and atmospheric song into something the PDP-1 can reproduce. As Lynch writes on GitHub, the “Harmony Compiler”…

The assessment found that PFNA interferes with human development by causing lower birth weights and, based on animal evidence, likely causes damage to the liver and to male reproductive systems, including reductions in testosterone levels, sperm production and the size of reproductive organs.…

When 19-year-old Jorge Ruiz walked into the Autauga County Jail in handcuffs on Oct. 28, 2018, he wasn’t a typical suspect. He was out of place and in big trouble in a deeply conservative part of Alabama. That morning, he’d been driving about 70 miles per hour in a 55 zone when he crossed the center line of a two-lane rural highway. His Ford pickup collided…
Tamir Gottfried, the Chief Commercial and Strategy Officer at TytoCare came on THCB to show us how their remote device works to deliver the last few inches of telehealth. Most telehealth is just a video call but with Tyto’s device, the patient can asynchronously (and/or synchronously) take their vital signs including videos and pictures of the skin, ears, mouth, heartbeat et al, and share it with their doctor. It actually amazes me that they haven’t been more popular but in the last few years Tyto has made significant inroads with health plans and providers delivering their devices, as well as…

Comparison is human, but the pace and presence of social media have amplified it to a constant hum in the background…
