President Donald Trump predicted that gas will “soon” drop to $2 per gallon. During a speech in Japan, he said “our motto is drill baby drill” and noted that he anticipates “$2 gasoline pretty soon,” describing the prospect as “bigger than a tax cut.” If the president’s prediction pans out, it would mark a substantial decrease from the gas prices Americans have been facing at the pump. GAS PRICES NEAR $3 MARK FOR FIRST TIME IN YEARS The AAA national average price for regular gas is currently $3.044. In mid-June 2022, during President Joe Biden’s White House tenure, the AAA…

Call it “The Art of the Rare Earth Deal.” President Trump has embarked on bold new rare earths diplomacy to reduce China’s global dominance in the rare earth supply chain needed to power industries worldwide. Lawmakers at the helm of the Senate Special Committee on Aging have proposed a sweeping series of changes that could transform the way the government safeguards the quality of essential generic drugs. Citing a recent ProPublica investigation, the senators said the Food and Drug Administration should alert hospitals and other group purchasers when foreign drugmakers with serious safety and quality failures are given a special pass to send their products to the United States. I’ve reported on Idaho’s anti-vaccination movement for the past 10 years, most recently for ProPublica. I’ve written about people moving to Idaho as self-described “refugees” from states where vaccines are required for school. After the COVID-19 pandemic arrived, I wrote about Idaho’s low COVID-19 vaccination rate and, later, how that contributed to deaths and the near-collapse of our hospitals. As a journalist, the debate over vaccine policy and the rationales of the people behind the anti-vaccination movement fascinate me, even as the work comes with the weight of reporting on what can be, in some cases, life-or-death stakes. But I’m…

By MIKE MAGEE With the announcement of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine last week, the American Association of Immunologists (AAI) took an understandable victory lap, stating: “This Nobel Prize demonstrates how immunology is central to medicine and human health. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Dr. Shimon Sakaguchi, and it couldn’t have come at a better time as our nation’s scientific community and their…
