Scottish distance career history profile piece
The Athletics Community in Scotland felt a deep sense of loss this weekend with the passage of Lachie Stewart.
One of the icons of our sport died at the hospital in Paisley after a brief illness.
Lachie’s son Canada He announced the news with a brief tribute on social networks.
The Gold Medal of the Commonwealth games in Lachie more than 10000m was one of the great moments in which Edinburgh was the host in 1970 and, in fact, one of he Iconic moments of all time for athletics in Scotland.
The distance corridor would compete for Scotland in three games and also represent GB and not in the 1972 Olympic Games in Germany.
Much later, Lachie was still in the events and not too many years ago that he helped medals in an XC event of the West district in Balloch, largely his forest neck.
It was included in our Fame Hall in 2018 (when several initial omissions were adapted again). Lachie is also in the Hall of Fame of Scottish sport.
He was a dental mechanic for 44 years and came from Alexandria. After starting in sport locally, he associated with Shettleston Harriers.

‘With great sadness we announced the death of Stewart laugh in patience today at the Rah Paisley with the family by his side after a brief illness.
‘Famous for his victory over the 10000 meters in the 1970 Commonwealth games in Edinburgh.
‘He also represented Scotland at the British Empire Games and the 1966 Commonwealth in Kingston, Jamaica and the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand.
‘Hey competed on numerous occasions for Great Britain, including more than 10,000 meters at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
‘Funeral details to be confirmed.
“His toughest career now has a leg race and it will be great.”
