Augusta, VE. – Rory Mcilroy was just where he needed to be.
In search of his first Masters green jacket and a Grand Slam race, Mcilroy was in a good position.
He was a torque of 4 years through 14 holes with the opportunity to advance above the classification.
And then everything collapsed over him.
Mcilroy went from 4 bass to par, seven shots behind the leader Justin Rose, with two double bogeys in the last four holes.
None of the last 42 Masters champions have had more than a double bogey throughout the tournament, and Mcilroy loaded two in a period of three holes, in us. 15 and 17.
Fifteen was where he was going to unravel. Mcilroy sent what looked like a decent chip on the water that protects the front of the green, but the ball rolled from the back of the green to the water. That led to the first double.
When his round ended, Mcilroy, clearly shaken, rejected interview requests.
Interestingly, on Tuesday he spoke with journalists about the growing trend of players who refuse to talk to the media, saying: “All other athletes, either in the NFL, you can speak to you after a game per game per game per game.
“If that is something that the PGA Tour seeks in terms of putting that in its rules and regulations … but whenever that is not the case and we have the option of choosing not to participate, we hope that men do it from time to time.”
Jack Nicklaus, the six -time Masters winner who is close to Mcilroy, revealed Thursday that the two lunch last week in Florida and talked about the strategy in Augusta National, where Mcilroy has a tendency to play too aggressively.
“I think it’s time for Rory won [a Masters]”Nicklaus said.” I sat with Rory last week and had lunch, and we were talking, and said: “Rory, I know you prepared for Augusta; tell me how you are going to play the golf course.”
“We get used to overcome it to shoot. And [when] He arrived with the round, and I opened my mouth. (Then) I said: ‘Well, I would not change anything. That is exactly the way I would try to play the golf course. “
“The discipline to do that is what Rory has missed, in my opinion. He has all the shots. He has the whole game. He is certainly as talented as anyone in the game. That prevents him from getting where he needs to go.”
Those were Nicklaus’s prophetic words, like the double Bogey Seven in No. 15 It is what Begen Slide is committed on Thursday.
