Momentive Performance Materials, Inc. (Momentive), a global high-performance silicones and specialty solutions company, presents HARMONIETM NatuVel gel – a 100% biobased elastomer gel that enables a new generation of skin care, suncare and colour cosmetics. The breakthrough innovation will be officially launched at in-cosmetics global 2025 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from April 8–10.
The solution is the latest addition to the HARMONIE product range, which combines Momentive’s world-leading technical expertise with plant and mineral feedstocks. This winning combination delivers high-performance personal care ingredients with a higher content from renewable feedstocks.
Designed with natural formulations and the needs of the clean beauty market in mind, HARMONIE NatuVel gel is derived from 100% plant-based raw materials and developed with the guidance of the Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry.
This unique, patent-pending, translucent gel has been designed to provide formulation flexibility beyond traditional elastomer gels. It provides soft focus and blurring effects, offers luxurious sensory aesthetics, reduces the oily sensation of common cosmetic ingredients, including UV filters, and mattifies the skin. In addition, it brings functional benefits for the formulator, supporting stabilisation of W/O emulsions and helps to disperse and suspend pigments and powders.
“Our HARMONIE by Momentive range is a symbol of Momentive’s commitment to the pursuit of a more sustainable world,” said Jose Luis Conde, Vice President and Global Segment Leader, Beauty and Personal Care. “The launch of a breakthrough innovation like HARMONIE NatuVel gel shows the role of science and technology in overcoming challenges and taking us further on this journey. We aimed for a 100% naturally derived solution that could perform on par with silicone elastomer gels and that is what we are showcasing today.”
“We are excited to introduce the HARMONIE NatuVel gel to the market. We have listened to our customers’ requests for biobased alternatives for ingredients that are hard to replace, such as the elastomer gels,” explained Sabine Turner, Global Natural’s Leader. “We continue to invest in delivering materials that solve formulators real-time challenges.”
