According to reports, France surpassed Germany for the first time in years as the main destination in the European Union for alleged asylum applicants, as a survey of the Government Commission has found.
According to confidential documents filtered to Germany Welt am sonntag The newspaper, France has received 40,871 asylum requests in the first three months of this year. This was the majority of any EU nation, followed by Spain in 39,318 applications, and typically in the first place in Germany following third with 37,387.
This represented a 41 percent decrease for Germany compared to the same period of time last year. Meanwhile, France is on its way to seeing a three percent increase over 2024 if the trend of the first quarter continues for the rest of the year.
Instead of any government policy, the decrease in Germany has been attributed mainly to the end of the civil war in Syria, which for a long time represented one of the main countries of origin for asylum applicants in Germany.
This has corresponded to a general decrease of asylum seekers who enter the EU+, which includes Norway and Switzerland, for statistical purposes. So far this year, 210,641 asylum seekers have requested protection in the region, a 19 percent decrease over last year.
In marked contrast with their liberal counterparts and demonstrating the ability of governments to limit mass migration, Hungary and Slovakia were listed in the lower part of the list of countries in terms of asylum applications received, with Budapestaving since it received a year received.
On the contrary, France, depriving under the neoliberal government of President Emmanuel Macron, has tasks of a much more open approach. In fact, the number of applications for the first time of asylum applicants increased by 89 percent since Macron rose to 2023. The difference is equally more dramatic compared to the previous years, and 2023 saw an increase.
Between 2017 and 2023, the Macron government registered 825,000 asylum applications in the country, the equivalent of allowing a population of the size of Marseille, completely composed of asylum applicants, in France King in the six years.
The Immigration and Demography Observatory (OID) has attributed the massive influx to the lax criteria to request asylum in France. The group of experts said that, according to current rules, around 580 million people worldwide would be eligible to seek asylum in the country, or approximately 8.5 times the current population of France.
The OID has indicated the expansion in recent years of what Paris sees a refugee, who has grown to include all those allegedly suffering from violence in their country of origin as a result of their gender or sex, instead of the traditional definition of fleeing from life. There are also no limits in the number of asylums per country, or simply a limit in the number that the Government is willing to take per year.
Nicolas Pouvreau-Monti, director of the OID, has asked the government to seek a clause of exclusion of the EU immigration rules, similar to those provided to countries such as Denmark and Ireland. Pouvreau-Monti has also suggested that the state reject any second application of a migrant and makes the asylum system less attractive in general to reduce the waves of migrants seeking asylum in the country.
