According to the results of a new member survey conducted by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), patients with hair restoration surgery for the first time in 2024 biases younger than the general adult population, with 95% starting hair restoration.
More women also resorted to a permanent solution for hair loss, since the number of surgical patients with female hair restoration treated in 2024 increased by 16.5% since 2021.
Ishrs members reported continuous growth in the field of hair restoration due in large part to continuous refinizos in hair transplantation and a variety of non -surgical and medical effective solutions to combat hair loss. Specifically, the average number of patients per member member increased by 20% since 2021. The average number of hair restoration surgeries performed by Ishrs member per month in 2024 was 15.
“People who experience hair loss no longer wait until medium age to find effective solutions of trusted experts, such as Ishrs doctors who dedicate three quarters of their practices to hair restoration on average,” says Ricardo Mejia, MD, Fishrs, President of The Ishrs, in a statement. “The reasonable load of hair transplant surgeries that our members reported that they did each one is a testimony of their direct role to perform this highly intra -intra and experience, unlike the black hair hair technicians in the market here.”
Body hair transplantation grows
While the scalp hair transplant is still the most popular form of hair restoration surgery, supplementing hair in other parts of the body with body hair transplant (also called the no -squared hair restoration) is attacking more interest between men and women.
- The percentage of men looking for non -stapped hair restoration procedures increased to 18% in 2024, compared to 13% in 2021.
- The percentage of women seeking hair restoration procedures increased to 21% in 2024, compared to 17% in 2021.
- After the scalp, the next highest percentage of transplantation to the receiving area for females were the eyebrows, at 12%.
- After the scalp, the next highest percentage of transplantation to the men’s receptor area was the mustache/beards, 5%.
The patient’s point of view
When Ishrs members were asked to provide comments on the perspectives of their patients about hair restoration surgery, the survey found that almost half of the patients were willing to discuss their procedure with others and had expressed specific reasons to undergo surgery.
- Ishrs members reported that 44% of patients with hair transplantation they treated in 2024 planned to tell others that they had a hair transplant.
- Ishrs members reported that the number one reason (90%) by which their patients chose to undergo a hair transplant was “to become more attractive.”
- The second most common reason (63%) patients chose to undergo hair transplant surgery was “to look younger to compete in the workplace.”
Black Market continues to affect the market
Mejia points out that the number of complications of black market transplants is increasing in the world, which raises serious consequences for hair loss patients. This is generally due to the delegation of people without a license and not trained that are not doctors.
- 59% of Ishrs members reported that there are hair transplant clinics in the black market in their cities, compared to 51% in 2021.
- Ishrs members reported that the average percentage of repair cases due to an anterior black market hair transplant was 10%, compared to 6% in 2021.
