“Great Britain back to the world stage, with a government at the service of workers,” added Thomas-Symonds, without further elaborating the details of the agreement.
Starmer has emphasized that the United Kingdom will not join the single and frictionless market of the EU without friction customs union, or accept the free circulation of people between the United Kingdom and the EU. The prime minister has faced growing challenges of the United Kingdom Reform Party, which supported Brexit and opposes mass migration policies that raise the powerful island nation.
The reform, which recently won in the local elections, and the conservative opposition party has already called the agreement as a “surrender” or sovereignty of the United Kingdom to the leadership of the EU in Brussels.

Another problem that has long been a point of conflict in relations with the United Kingdom is fishing, a symbolically important issue for the United Kingdom and EU member states such as France. Disputes on the problem almost deranged a Brexit agreement in 2020. The summit is also expected to cover the alignment standards in the sale of agricultural products, which could eliminate the expensive controls of the food products of the Channel of La Mancha.
Thomas-Symonds told the BBC that he was confident that trade could be improved for food imports and exports.
“We know that we have had trucks waiting for 16 hours, fresh food on the back cannot be exported, because frankly it is only leaving, bureaucracy, all the certifications that are required, said absolutely reduce that, he said.
The New York Times cited an unidentified European diplomat saying that the agreement will allow European ships to access the fishing waters of the United Kingdom until June 30, 2038.

The agreement occurs when the return of President Donald Trump provides a greater sense of urgency for cooperation between the United Kingdom and the block, since the United States incoming administration adopts a new approach to European trade and security, as well as the Ukraine-Russian war. It is not clear how Trump, who supported Brexit, will react to the new Starmer agreement with the EU.
