The blue origin of Jeff Bezos launched his fiancee Lauren Sánchez to space on Monday with a team of female celebrities that included Katy Perry and Gayle King.
It was the last wave of space tourism, where more than the rich and famous than never before or fortunate and well connected can enter the realm of zero gravity traditionally dominated by professional astronauts.
The new Shepard rocket was deployed in the rapid alléntes trip from western Texas. The spaces of the space called about 5 miles (105 kilometers), promising a few minutes of ungravation.
Sánchez, a helicopter pilot and former television journalist, invited others for the 10 -minute flight and completely automated, packing the singer and composer of Star Power Perry and the coanfrerion of “CBS Mornings”.
Kerianne Flynn film producer also shared the trip; Aisha Bowe, a former NASA engineer who began his own companies to promote scientific education; and Amanda Nguyen, a scientist who studies planets around other stars and now defends by survivors of sexual violence.
Blue Origin refused to say how much the flight cost or who paid what. The trip came two months before Sánchez and Bezos married in Venice.
It was the 11th human spatial flights for the Washington State Company, founded by Bezos in 2000 after making a fortune with Amazon. Bezos tied for the first Blue Origin space tourist flight in 2021 and accompanied the last team of the pad.
The launch of celebrities was the first space flight of the nation where women filled each seat. The only other totally feminine crew in 64 years of human space flight was in 1963. It was then that the Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova threw itself by itself, becoming the first woman in space. Tereshkova spent three days out of the planet.
Just after the last launch, women represented only 15% of the more than 700 people who have traveled to space. Sanchez said that he deliberately chose women to launch with her, each of them anxious to both young and old for dreaming, and even commissioned special flight costumes.
“It is an important moment for the future of commercial spaces and for humanity in general and for women everywhere,” Perry told The Associated Press last week.

The launch brought VIP west Texas, including Oprah Winfrey, Kris Jenner and other members of the Kardashian family, and several women who have previously flown on private flights. Winfrey, a close friend of the king, cleaned his tears when the capsule reached the space and listened to the passengers amazed at the moon and screaming with joy.
While the women fought after a few minutes of anxiety, Perry sang some “What a Wonderful World” lines, King said in a televised interview after the launch.
Bezos opened the capsule hatch minutes after the touchdown, hugging Sánchez, the first. While emerging, Perry and King threw and kissed the ground. “Oh my God, that was incredible,” said King, who is considered an anxious plane flyer.
This was the first launch of Blue Origin with marquee names.
The actor of “Star Trek”, William Shatner, took an elevator to the blue space in 2021 at age 90, shortly after the inaugural trip of Bezos. He was followed by the former defensive wing of the New York giants and television presenter Michael Strahan and Laura Shepard Churchley, the eldest daughter of Mercury Alan Shepard’s astronaut, for whom the rocket is named. Two aviation pioneers who lost space when they were younger, Wally Funk and Ed Dwight, also shot at the ages of 82 and 90, respectively.
Most Blue Origin passengers, 58 counting the last launch, have been types of businesses or sciences, hosts of TV or youtubers. Ticket prices are not revealed.
The Russian space agency has also launched its part of space tourists, starting with a Financiero de California in 2001. Two decades later, a Russian actress filmed aboard the International Space Station.
Elon Musk Spacex also sells several days trips to private customers. The first Spacex client to fly, the multimillion -dollar technology entrepreneur Jared Isaacman has already launched twice and made the first private space walk. He is now ready to become the next NASA administrator if the Senate confirms.
The Bitcoin investor born in China, Chun Wang, has just returned from the first space flight to bring people on the north and south posts. Wang picked up the entire Spacex tab for him and three polar explorers for an unleashed sum.
“In this exciting new era or commercial space light, the dream of becoming an astronaut is no longer limited to a few,” Wang said through X last week.
