A 45 -foot statue of a naked woman is the most recent and highest resident of the San Francisco embarkation square.
The work of art, entitled “R-Revolution”, was presented with music, lights and performance arts on Thursday, courtesy of the non-profit organization of public art Illuminate. Designed to shine at night and seem to “breathe” through internal engines, the statue was destined to represent strength and compassion.
Instead, it has caused a violent reaction, Internet memes and questions about the priorities of the city.
Originally created for Burning Man in 2015 by the sculptor Marco Cochrane, the stainless steel figure is now outside the ferry building, launching a long shadow (and anatomically detailed) about a city where less and fewer people seem impressive.
While some see the statue as an empowerer, many San Franciscans see it as another example of the city that reads the room.
Social networks illuminate after a video of the influencer Collin Rugg, use viral that shows that a cherry collector was clumsily elevated between the installation of duration of the statue’s legs. The commentators quickly had a field day.
“Nothing says ‘revive in the center’ as a naked 45 feet lady who receives rear surgery,” wrote a unique user. Another inexpressive, “this image of man of embodies the spirit of San Francisco, go to -“.
The statue was installed only blocks of areas that deal with visible homeless people, use of outdoor drugs and addressed shop windows. While the art world could call that “juxtaposition”, many residents simply call it deaf.
Bruce Lou, the republican challenger of Nancy Pelosi in the last elections of Congress, was blunt.
Fox News
“I don’t know where to start on the priorities out of place for the city of San Francisco,” Lou said. “It seems that they are focused on absolutely everything except in the things that matter.”
Lou questioned Pelosi’s connection with the city, pointing out: “I am not equally sure that Pelosi knows about the statue. It is originally from Baltimore and spends almost all its time in DC, so the city and its components are not in their mind.”
John Dennis, the former president of the San Francisco Republican Party and current president of Cagop Chairs, offered an even more acute evaluation.
“The city that bears the name of San Francisco is now dominated by the antimal feminist agenda. The results speak of Tiselves,” he said. “A giant and naked woman who blocks the proud and iconic ferry building is a perfect metaphor for San Francisco these days.”
However, the reaction was not limited to conservatives.
In a comment from Kqed, “Nobody asked this,” wrote Arts Editor Sarah Hotchkiss, “while contemplating this monumental steel and mesh sculpture on Thursday, I felt ashamed of the city of San Francisco. One of the Audalce Forthce for the audal of the attention of things.
His criticism adds to a growing chorus of San Franciscans throughout the political spectrum that questions how and why this was made a civic priority.
According to the most recent points count of the city, around 8,300 people are experiencing the lack of housing in San Francisco.
The city plans to spend almost $ 690 million on home and homeless programs in the next fiscal year. The camps still extend in areas such as the spine, the soma and the mission.
Violent crime fell 14% throughout the city last year, and car thefts have reached a minimum of 22 years, a surprising development in a city where “Smash-And-Grab” once felt like a daily ritual.
But armed violence has increased by 5%, and despite the application of the law, public security remains a maximum concern.
Vacancies and empty streets in the center make even the most optimistic “revitalization” tone sits a bit like performance art itself.
The drug application has also increased in 2025, with judgments and a dating relationship with narcotics an increase of almost 40% compared to the beginning of 2024.
Even so, critics argue that the application without addiction treatment or shelter options often only moves the problem without solving it.
It is expected that “R-Ursa” will remain in place for at least six months and be possible up to a year.
The representative Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Did not immediately respond to the request for comments from Fox News Digital.
