President Donald Trump used his cabinet meeting today to describe his plans to remind some of the illegals that sport of work in the farm and hospitality sectors.
“It is a very large self -sports operation that we are starting,” he told the cabinet, adding:
We are going to work with people so that if they go out in a good [legal] Way and return to their country, we will work with them from the beginning to try to legally recover them. Then give [them] A real incentive [to leave]. Otherwise, they could never return.
The departure and return process can be 60 days, Trump suggested.
In a conversation with Kristi Call, head of the National Security Department, Trump said:
We are also going to work with farmers who have strong recommendations for their farms for certain people, we will let them remain for a while and work with farmers and go through a process, a legal process.
But we have to take care of our farmers and hotels and, you know, we know, glasses and vessels where they need people. And we are going to work with you very carefully on that. Then, a farmer will enter with a letter on certain people, saying they are great, they are working hard. We are going to stop it [deportation and enforcement] Below a little for them, and then, ultimately, we will bring them back.
“They will come out [and] They will return as legal workers. … I think it’s very important, “Trump added.
“Thousands of people have already self -support,” he says. “We have 20, 21 million people who need to go home because they are here violating our laws,” he said. “So we are encouraging [illegal migrants] People … to register, and we are working on resources and funds to buy a plane ticket to send them home, “he added.
Trump faces the pressure of real estate investors and hotel operators whose wealth of the stock market collapses when salary increases reduce projected profits.
“I am not very worried about this because I am skeptical, anything will happen,” said Mark Krikorian, director of the Immigration Studies Center, who favors less migration and more productivity.
For example, he said, farmers can import as many agricultural workers as they want through the H-2A program, but the H-2B for manual workers has limits. “H-2a is feasible, it is an unlimited program, but H-2B has number limits, so there is a limit of how much of that can do,” said Krikorian.
But regardless of practical policy, the proposal is also a bad policy, said Krikorian:
The president says different things all the time, but if it is widely applied, it makes it much more difficult for less qualified, immigrants or American workers to negotiate with better salaries. It also reduces incentive for employers, special farmers, to find ways to use less labor [by] wearing [productivity-boosting] Labor savings technology. If the president only said: “He doesn’t have to invest money in a lettuce harvesting machine,” Why would they?

Farmers are reluctant to invest a lot in not proven machinery, partly because loans are risky if agricultural income falls.
If it is applied in general terms, policy would become an amnesty for migrant workers and their employers. Hey, said:
“[It looks like] The elusive ‘touchback’ that floated several times in the thrusts of anterior amnesty, where illegal immigrants would return to Mexico and then arrived in the United States … what they called him in the 50 Then they are returned to the farm that they were working illegally.
Employers also obtain an amnesty because they are not a response of heroes for the use of illegal immigrant thesis. In fact, the son of the Blessed It government returning to his workers after his rescue was dragged into the Rio Grande.
“I’m not sure I am particularly worried about that,” Krikorian said. “This is something that he thinks is a good idea, and [for him] If it happens, that’s fine, and if it doesn’t happen, it’s fine too. “
