A judge in Orange County, California, has rejected an effort of the state administered by the Democrats to block the beach of the city of Huntington to enforce an identification law of voters that local voters approved by referendum last year, at least for municipal elections.
Huntington Beach, “Surf City USA”, or cuts the trend of the left in California, fighting against the restrictions of the Coronavirus, the amnesty of illegal foreigners, the requirements of “affordable housing” and a prohibition backed by Democrat to the identification of voters.
Governor Gavin Newsom (D) signed a state prohibition of voting identification last year in response to, approved by local voters for the last time. But the city argues that its independent powers under state law give it control of their own elections.
A County Judge agreed, according to the Orange County Registry:
“It cannot be demonstrated that a voter identification requirement compromises the integrity of a municipal election,” wrote the Superior Court of the Orange County, Nico Dourbetas, in his ruling.
…
“Once again, we believe that Orange County’s Superior Court won,” said Attorney General Rob Bonta in a statement. “Now that we have a final order of the Superior Court of Orange County, we hope to move forward and appeal the decision. We remain sure that measure A will ultimately attacked.”
…
A panel of three judges in the Court of Appeals of the Fourth District, which was an early look at the arguments in the case in February, had described the city’s argument that “it had the constitutional right to regulate the elections of companions of interference problems that the panel had asked the judge of the Superior Court to reconsider its previous ruling.”
The case is now foreseen through the state appeals system. It is likely that the Supreme Court on the left in California will be put on the side of the city, possible to establish an appeal of the United States Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Republicans in the state recently launched an effort to put a referendum on the ballot in 2026 to require voter identification. President Donald Trump also said that he would like to see future aid to the state conditioned to voting identification.
