Augusta, VE. -Yes Angel Cabrera is aware that anyone who is not happy to play in this week’s masters based on the multiple condemnations for assault on the former friends, would not know.
Cabrera, who was imprisoned 30 months in Brazil and Argentina before being released in 2023, was asked on Tuesday after a practice round, based on what he had done, “deserved to” be in Augusta this week.
“I won the Masters,” he said, referring to his 2009 victory. “Why not?”
Cabrera, who won the 2009 Masters, attended the annual champions dinner with his fellow champions on Tuesday night.
“Life has given me another chance,” he said. “I have to take advantage of that and do the right things on this second chance. Obviously, I regret the things that happened and you learn from them.”
The Spanish amateur José Luis Ballester, in the field of Masters this week as winner of American fans, had the experience of a lifetime on Tuesday, playing a practice of practice with not only three Spaniards, but three former Masters champions.
