When Melanie Viger first started in the beauty industry nearly 12 years ago, she knew that she found her life calling – teaching, building a team and having a studio is still just the beginning says Melanie.
Melanie was born and raised in Quebec, she moved to Toronto in the early years of her career quickly to become a very highly respected Makeup artist in the community. Eager to expand Melanie took her Career internationally where her work was seen in such places as New York and Miami Fashion Week, TIFF, The Super-bowl, Vanity Fair and most recently the Oscars.
“Oscar glam has always been a dream of mine” says Melanie as she explains how they filmed and and captured all the exciting moments surrounding Oscar day makeup as Melanie glammed up TV Star Leen Al Halawani for an upcoming episode on a TV show in Dubai. “I can’t wait for you guys to see this one we had so much fun”. Her glamorous makeup career doesn’t stop here. Melanie is also known for the incredible glamour seen on sever celebrities such as Canadian tennis superstar Bianca Andresscu, Tennis Star Genie Bouchard, Housewife Teresa Guidace , Housewife Nene Leaks, Vine star Amanda Cerny, Love and Hiphop star Erika Mena, Fitness Star Trish Stratus, Actress Lauren Holly, Model Lolo Woods, Singer/Songwriter Keyshia Cole and many many more.
“Celebrities are so fun to work on, I love being able to get into extreme detail for glam to really perfect each persons look”. says Melanie.
Melanie is now becoming known for more than just her makeup skills but also is seen as an on air beauty expert and at times brand rep for The Shopping Channel ™ in Canada and Evine™ in the US. Going on air with beauty brands to bring the best of the industry knowledge to viewers. She also had become a beauty and fashion influencer on social media with nearly 80K followers and recently opened MUAVEE ™ Makeup Studio in Toronto which she calls her home. Melanie also has expanded several years ago into cosmetics and eyelashes with a new collection launching soon.
When did you know you wanted to be a Makeup artist?
“I always loved art, I used to paint and draw as a child, then when my teen years hit so did my acne and I really just wanted to learn how to cover it. Going to
makeup school was a side thing for me to really just learn how to do makeup on myself. I was studying in Economics and working in finance BUT things changed quickly once I gained confidence in what I was doing in makeup and realized I was actually good at it. Pretty quickly I found myself fully immersed, I did CTV, Fashion week, weddings then next thing you know im in Toronto quitting my day job doing Caribanna campaigns, Miami skin week, New York fashion week and wow how my life changed.
Looking back I wouldn’t say I always 100% knew that this is what I wanted to do full time, I knew that I was a creative person and that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I believe that I really paved my own path thanks to the changes in the industry making that possible. I’ve always been artistic, loved makeup, beauty and fashion, embraced myself as a woman and wanted to become a leader and my own boss. I just had to figure out how I would do it all together.”
Whats next for MUAVEE™ and Melanie Viger?
“MUAVEE is my brand and Melanie Viger is me as an artist. Next step for MUAVEE will be to build a solid Canadian team of makeup artists, I’ve spent a ton of time training a few girls this past year and want to have a reliable and consistent group of elite makeup artists that can service my clients as we grow.
MUAVEE will hopefully expand into more cosmetics, teach bigger teams, master classes, bigger online presence and who knows down the road!
I personally as Melanie Viger will continue to do more on air appearances and brand collaborations as a beauty and fashion influencer. I’m so unbelievably excited for the future of both me and my brand as we continue to grow. “
Any words of advice for someone who wants to wants to get into the industry?
“Work hard, master your craft and be nice. People you meet today may be the people that open the doors for tomorrow. When that door is opened don’t just be good, be the absolute best”
